Elon Musk Previews Major AI and Chat Updates Coming to X

X is preparing a new round of product updates aimed at advancing Elon Musk’s vision of turning the platform into an “everything app.” In recent interviews on The Joe Rogan Experience and The All-In Podcast, Musk outlined several upcoming developments, including a curated feed powered by the company’s AI model Grok, expanded messaging tools, and enhanced search features.

One of the main changes Musk revealed is a curated “Following” tab, designed to surface the most relevant posts from users’ existing follows. According to Musk, “Something we’re going to be adding is the ability to have a curated following tab… Grok will say: ‘What are the most interesting things posted by your friends?’ And then we’ll show you that in the ‘Following’ tab.” The new feed would exist alongside the current “Following” and “For You” timelines, giving users more control over how they view updates on the platform.

Musk also discussed how Grok will soon analyze every post made in English on X – approximately 100 million per day – to categorize and deliver content more effectively. “Grok is gonna’ start off reading [all the posts], then Grok will understand them and categorize them and match them to users,” he said, adding that the process is designed to improve content discovery and engagement.

Another key addition in the works is semantic search, which will allow users to ask questions and receive relevant posts – both text and visual – in response. This marks a step toward integrating conversational AI directly into X’s search and discovery systems. Musk also addressed ongoing work on encrypted messaging, known internally as XChat. He described it as “kind of similar to bitcoin” in its encryption model. Musk noted that X’s goal is to develop “the least insecure” messaging service possible, with plans to eventually launch XChat as a standalone app.
