TikTok Raises North American Creator Revenue Share to 90%

TikTok has announced a new incentive structure for subscription payouts in the U.S. and Canada, raising the potential share creators receive for subscription revenues to as much as 90 percent. The move aims to strengthen ties with North American creators amid ongoing regulatory uncertainty and growing competition in the creator economy, mostly due to potential ownership changes in the United States.

Previously, creators outside the U.S. and Canada could receive up to 70 percent of net subscription proceeds (50 percent base plus a performance bonus). Now, North American creators start with a 70 percent base share after app store fees, and then become eligible for an additional 20 percent bonus – bringing the top payout rate to 90 percent. To qualify, creators must meet thresholds for followers and video views, and unlock bonus incentives via challenges within the app.

This change to the revenue split comes at an obvious strategic time – the potential turning pont for the long-discussed deal and/or ban with the U.S.

By making subscription revenue more attractive, the platform strengthens its case as a viable income stream for established content producers. Given the amount of TikTok alternatives that cropped up when news of the ban was fresh – many of which still operate to this day – the move signals TikTok’s intent to compete more aggressively for creator allegiance in North America.
