Threads Experiments With Long-Form Text Posts
Meta’s Threads is piloting a new feature that allows users to share long-form text directly on the platform, a move aimed at making it easier to publish in-depth content without relying on external tools or workarounds.
First spotted by app researcher Radu Oncescu, the feature lets users attach a block of text to a post instead of splitting longer thoughts into multiple entries. According to Meta, the “text attachment” tool is designed for deeper expression, enabling users to share extended reflections, news summaries, or even excerpts from books with optional formatting features.
When published, long-form content appears as a snippet in a gray box within the main feed. Viewers can tap through to expand and scroll the full text. This change could help Threads appeal to writers, creators, and commentators who might otherwise turn to newsletters or blogging platforms like Substack for longer posts.
The development comes as Threads continues to position itself against X, which already offers a similar feature called Articles. Unlike X’s approach, which is gated behind its Premium subscription, Threads’ long-form tool is currently available to all users during testing. However, Threads’ version is text-only for now, while X supports multimedia integration.
Meta has not shared a specific timeline for a broader rollout but confirmed that more users will gain access in the future.
The test adds to a steady cadence of feature updates from Threads, which has introduced direct messaging, custom feeds, fediverse integrations, and AI-powered tools in recent months. The platform recently surpassed 400 million monthly active users, while rival X has previously reported over 600 million.
