TikTok Introduces Seller Badges to Enhance e-Commerce User Experience

TikTok has expanded its in‑app shopping features by releasing out a new badge system designed to spotlight reputable sellers on TikTok Shop. The update introduces several distinct labels – Official Shop, Authorized Seller, Gold Star Seller, Silver Star Seller, and the already familiar Top Brand badge – to help users quickly assess seller credibility.

The Official Shop and Authorized Seller badges identify certified merchants for specific product categories, while the Gold Star and Silver Star badges reflect seller performance based on TikTok’s Shop Performance Score (SPS) and product feedback. Sellers must maintain an SPS of at least 90% and secure positive product reviews for the Gold Star label, with slightly more lenient requirements for Silver Stars. Continual high ratings and timely service underpin the Top Brand designation.

These badges are prominently displayed throughout the shopping experience – on live streams, short-form videos, product pages, and search results – to guide consumer purchase choices with clear quality signals. TikTok emphasizes that the aim is increased transparency and improved customer satisfaction, as sellers are motivated to maintain high standards to earn these distinctions.

This move coincides with a surge in TikTok’s in‑app commerce, particularly in the U.S. On Black Friday last year, livestream sales tripled – a pattern followed by robust shopping growth across additional markets. As TikTok seeks to cement its presence in Western social commerce, these seller badges could become key trust elements underpinning its broader strategy to boost performance‑driven shopping within the platform.
