Threads to Simplify Transition from X with Follower Import Feature
Meta’s social platform Threads is reportedly working on a feature that could make it easier for users to replicate their X following on the app. According to app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, the new feature would introduce an option called “Creators from X” in the Threads follow tool. This option would guide users through the process of downloading their X follower information and then uploading it to Threads to match their follows.
While this could simplify the transition for X users considering a switch to Threads, it is not an automated process. Users would have to manually download their X follower data and then upload it to Threads. Additionally, the feature might not be entirely accurate, as there is no guarantee that the information on X will perfectly match the data on Threads.
Despite these limitations, the feature could be valuable for users who want to transfer their communities across platforms, even if it’s not as seamless as a one-click solution. Meta may be betting that by making this process easier, it could attract more X users to Threads, particularly as discontent with X continues to grow under Elon Musk’s leadership. However, despite complaints and user migration over the past year, X has maintained 250 million daily active users, suggesting that significant user loss may not be occurring at the rate some anticipated.
Notably, this feature is still a direct blow at a competitor’s platform, allowing users to effectively export their followers and skip one of the biggest hurdles with leaving any social media platform – having to find all of your old follows and followers. Threads, still in its early stages as far as social media platforms go, may be looking to capitalize on any further dissatisfaction with X to keep its growth momentum going – unless it’s the sign of an unexpected partnership between the two platforms.
