X Introduces New Feed Sorting Options for Communities
X has introduced new feed sorting options for its Communities feature, allowing users to better organize and engage with posts in their groups. The update, announced by X engineer Dong Wook Chung, gives users more ways to filter content based on trending topics, popularity (Likes), and chronological order.
The new sorting options function similarly to Reddit, enabling users to track the most engaging discussions over different timeframes. Additionally, users can now view only their own posts and replies within a community, making it easier to follow personal interactions and ongoing discussions. With X Communities now public, these updates could also improve content discovery. Users searching for specific topics on the platform can now stumble upon relevant community discussions, potentially increasing participation in niche interest groups.
However, X’s focus on Communities remains unclear. Despite the platform reporting a 600% increase in time spent in Communities last year, and an average of 650,000 community posts per day, it recently removed the Communities tab from the app’s main navigation, replacing it with a video-focused tab instead. This shift raises questions about whether Communities are a significant driver of engagement or a secondary feature in X’s broader strategy.
Still, with more than a fifth of X’s users engaging in Communities daily, and enhanced sorting tools for better interaction, this update could help make Communities a more prominent part of the platform’s social experience.
