TikTok Releases Report Highlighting Its Influence on the Music Industry
TikTok has released its second annual “Music Impact Report”, detailing how the platform is shaping the music industry by driving discovery, streaming, and artist success. The report, based on research by Luminate just like the previous annual release, underscores TikTok’s role in influencing music consumption and revenue generation.
According to TikTok, the report analyzes data from 2024 and examines how the platform impacts music discovery, chart performance, and industry revenues. The findings emphasize TikTok’s growing influence, particularly in the U.S. market, where users are significantly more engaged with music compared to general audiences.
Among the key insights, the report reveals that TikTok users in the U.S. are 74% more likely to discover and share new music on social and short-form video platforms than the average short-form video user. Additionally, TikTok music fans are more likely to subscribe to paid streaming services and spend more money on music than even the most dedicated listeners in the general population.
The report also highlights TikTok’s correlation with streaming success, noting that TikTok total views are significantly related to streaming volumes for 96% of artists analyzed. Furthermore, 84% of all songs that entered the Billboard Global 200 in 2024 had a viral moment on TikTok beforehand.
TikTok has also included artist case studies that illustrate how musicians have leveraged the platform to grow their careers, providing insights into key viral moments that contributed to their success. As TikTok faces ongoing scrutiny and potential regulatory challenges in the U.S., the report serves as a strong statement on its cultural and economic impact – particularly for the music industry, which increasingly relies on the platform for exposure and engagement.
