LinkedIn Overhauls Video Features And Boosts Video Discovery
LinkedIn is making a stronger push into video content with a series of updates aimed at improving visibility, accessibility, and engagement across its platform. With video watch time increasing by 36% year-over-year, the professional networking site is enhancing its video presentation and search functionality to align with changing user behavior.
One of the key updates is the expansion of LinkedIn’s full-screen vertical video format to desktop. Originally launched on mobile, this feature allows users to engage with video content in a more immersive, swipeable format. As LinkedIn explains, “Now viewers can select any video in the feed or within ‘Videos for You’ then swipe or click through to discover more video content, whether that’s on their desktop or mobile device.”
In addition to the full-screen player, LinkedIn is testing a larger video display in the mobile feed. Videos will now appear in a more prominent, wider format, and clicking on a creator’s profile will provide a mini-profile overview that highlights their video uploads—a layout reminiscent of TikTok’s content discovery experience.
Discovery is another focus of these updates. LinkedIn is integrating more video content into search results, introducing a swipeable carousel of relevant videos when users search for specific topics. Additionally, a more prominent follow button is being tested within the full-screen player, encouraging deeper engagement with video creators. To support content creators, LinkedIn is also rolling out new video analytics, including average watch time metrics, and offering free LinkedIn Learning courses on video production techniques.
All of this effectively allows LinkedIn’s video offerings to compete with those offered by other large social platforms, at least at a technical level. While some improvements were made late last year, this bigger nudge towards video content could be a response to both TikTok’s uncertain situation in the U.S. and the amount of social platforms that have released their own video tools to capture the resulting audience that comes their way.
