TikTok Unveils Black History Month Initiatives
TikTok has announced a series of programs and activations for Black History Month 2025, including a new cohort of emerging Black creators, a business accelerator program, and in-person events aimed at celebrating and supporting Black voices.
At the center of the campaign is TikTok’s annual Black Creators to Watch initiative, which highlights influential Black creators making an impact both on and off the platform. “There’s a wealth of Black creators who are championing communities, breaking boundaries, and uplifting others both on and off of TikTok,” the company stated. The selected creators span various industries, including education, beauty, and entrepreneurship, and will receive increased exposure throughout February.
TikTok is also focusing on Black-owned businesses through its #ShopBlackOwned campaign. This includes promotional features in the TikTok Shop tab, live-stream shopping events, and a documentary-style showcase highlighting successful Black entrepreneurs. Additionally, TikTok is launching the SOAR Together accelerator program, in collaboration with Black Girl Ventures. The program will provide funding and mentorship for 20 selected Black-owned businesses, culminating in an in-person graduation ceremony.
Unusually, TikTok is also hosting in-person events across the U.S., despite the platform’s current legal status in the country. Even though the app itself is currently not re-banned, it is on notably shaky ground due to pressure from multiple U.S. groups who want to buy it. This makes its real-world promotions notable, as they typically aim to increase visibility and attract new users – while also potentially establishing TikTok firmly within the U.S. as a physical presence.
