LinkedIn Reports Continued Growth, Record Engagement and Revenue

LinkedIn has once again posted record engagement in its latest performance update, continuing a trend seen in every reporting period since Microsoft acquired the platform in 2016. Although these claims of record engagement have become routine, the lack of specific metrics leaves the reported numbers open to interpretation. LinkedIn currently boasts over a billion registered members worldwide, but with only 40% of those members actively engaging on the platform in regions like Europe, the true active user count likely falls closer to 400 million.

Despite the ambiguity surrounding its engagement metrics, LinkedIn’s financial performance remains strong. Microsoft reports a 9% increase in LinkedIn’s revenue for the quarter, driven by growth across all its business elements. A significant portion of this revenue came from LinkedIn’s Premium subscription offerings, which reached over $2 billion in 2024, up from $1.7 billion the previous year.

In terms of content, LinkedIn has seen a marked increase in video engagement, beginning with the 36% increase in 2024 and steadily climbing from what little we’ve already seen of 2025. To support this growth, the platform is experimenting with a larger video playback window in the main feed, and undoubtedly has other video feature offerings in the pipeline.

LinkedIn also continues to evolve its ad offerings, including updates to ad attribution and the addition of paid boosting for personal posts. Additionally, the platform is embracing AI with new tools for job seekers facilitated by its partnership with OpenAI – including tools focused on hiring processes and sales efforts. The recent changes to features like the campaign manager may have opened the floodgates for even more noticable increases in growth and revenue, given that video engagement was increasing even before the tools to advertise via video were overhauled.
