Meta Offers $5,000 Incentive If TikTok Creators Change Platforms

Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, is offering significant financial incentives to popular creators in the United States. The initiative promises up to $5,000 to those who join its platforms from other social media apps, targeting new creators with a substantial social presence that would be likely to draw their fans to a new platform if they switched.

Although Meta has not explicitly named TikTok, the timing aligns with ongoing concerns about TikTok’s future in the U.S., where it boasts 170 million users. The uncertainty, spurred by political and regulatory challenges, has left creators reliant on TikTok for income searching for alternative platforms.

Under the programme, eligible creators will receive payments within their first 90 days, provided they post consistently. Participants must upload at least 20 original Reels on Facebook and 10 on Instagram every 30 days. Reels are Meta’s answer to TikTok’s short-form videos, and the programme specifically prohibits recycled content from other platforms. The offer is restricted to creators who are entirely new to Facebook or Instagram, with Meta evaluating applications individually. Additional perks, such as free access to Meta’s blue check verification, are also included.

This initiative is part of a broader effort by Meta to attract TikTok’s user base. Recent moves include launching a TikTok-inspired video editing app called Edits and introducing affiliate link capabilities similar to TikTok Shop. Additionally, Instagram has shifted its profile layout from square to rectangular posts to mirror TikTok’s visual style, though this change has drawn criticism from users.
