Snapchat Streamlines Creator Monetization For 2025
Snapchat is enhancing its creator monetization options by unifying its Stories and Spotlight video programs under a single revenue-sharing system. Beginning February 1, 2025, eligible creators will be able to earn income from both content formats, simplifying Snapchat’s approach to rewarding creators and making it easier to maximize earnings.
Previously, Snapchat’s Stories monetization program allowed creators to generate income through mid-roll ads inserted into public Stories. The new integration brings Spotlight videos – Snapchat’s short-form content format – into this system, consolidating the platform’s monetization pathways.
To qualify, creators must meet specific thresholds, including having at least 50,000 followers and 12,000 cumulative watch hours in the previous 28 days. Additional requirements include posting at least 25 times per month and maintaining consistent activity by sharing content on at least 10 of the past 28 days. Alternatively, creators can qualify by achieving 10 million Snap views or 1 million Spotlight views within the same timeframe.
This is another step away from its Spotlight Bonus program, which initially paid creators significant daily rewards for top-performing videos. Over time, evolving competition and changing payout structures led to diminishing returns for many participants, prompting frustration among creators. By integrating monetization for both Stories and Spotlight, Snapchat aims to establish a more sustainable and equitable system for rewarding creators.
Given that other platforms – namely TikTok – have been pushing for better monetisation as both a revenue stream and a way to draw in creators and advertisers, Snapchat’s own tweaks might be a good call. 2025 could see an influx of both new users and creators alike, and these preparatory changes might remove some of the hurdles involved in setting up monetized content.
