Reddit Introduces AI-Powered “Reddit Answers” Feature
Reddit has unveiled a new feature called “Reddit Answers”, an AI-driven tool that provides users with summarized insights sourced from discussions across relevant subreddits. This initiative aims to enhance user engagement by offering conversational responses, akin to Google’s AI overviews, but tailored specifically to Reddit’s ecosystem.
With Reddit Answers, users can ask questions via a new interface and receive curated summaries of related conversations. The summaries also include links to the original threads and communities, enabling users to explore in-depth discussions or follow up with their own questions on the threads themselves.
Reddit explains the functionality as an AI-powered system designed to streamline the process of navigating its extensive content. It connects users to practical, real-world insights shared by Reddit’s active community, making it easier to find detailed information quickly. Given that Reddit operates more like a forum than a conventional social media platform, this may also be a way to help new users ease into using it comfortably – giving them an easy way to find subreddit communities and content that they want.
This launch coincides with Reddit’s growing role as a data source in AI development, especially given its human-generated insights that are increasingly valuable in refining AI models. Earlier this year, Reddit partnered with Google to share its data, which has since been integrated into Google’s AI initiatives, such as its Gemini chatbot. Currently, Reddit Answers is in a limited rollout for U.S.-based users and supports English only. Expansion plans include additional languages and regions, and will no doubt get more features if the addition becomes popular enough.
