Snapchat Launches In-Store Snapchat+ Gift Cards for Holiday Season

In an effort to encourage more Snapchat+ subscriptions his holiday season, Snapchat is expanding its subscription offerings by introducing gift cards in major U.S. retailers, including Amazon, Walmart, and Target. This initiative, allows Snapchat+ gift cards to be bought in-store or online, making it convenient for users to gift subscriptions to friends or family directly rather than having to hand over the money for a subscription in a roundabout way.

Last year’s similar campaign, limited to Amazon, saw Snapchat+ memberships rise significantly, contributing to a 40% growth in subscriptions by the end of Q4. Now, with multiple retail partners, Snap aims to drive even greater subscription numbers. Snapchat+ offers exclusive features like custom chat wallpapers, seasonal app icons, and Bitmoji pets, which have proven popular among users looking for personalization options within the app – meaning that these subscriptions are very desirable for frequent users.

Since its launch, Snapchat+ has reached 12 million subscribers, becoming a steady secondary revenue stream. While Snapchat still relies on ad revenue, these subscription earnings add a valuable supplement, especially as the company invests in augmented reality (AR) and other innovations. Snapchat+ is notably also focusing on adding features that users either want or are highly receptive to – in this case, a growing demand for customisation and personalization among younger social media audiences.

With 2023’s gift card initiative seeing a huge growth in subscriptions by the end of the year, it’s highly likely that the same will happen with this holiday season too. With more retailers stocking the cards and Snapchat expansions to the subscription features, the platform is on track to receive an even bigger flood of new subscribers by the end of the year.
