Meta’s Threads Surges to 275 Million Users

Meta’s Threads has reached a significant milestone, amassing 275 million monthly active users (MAU), as revealed by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg during the company’s Q3 earnings call and on his personal Threads account. This rapid growth represents an impressive shift for the app, initially achieving 100 million MAU in nine months and recently accelerating to add 100 million more in just three months.

At its current growth rate of about a million new users daily, Threads is shaping up to be a key player in real-time social media and may pose a challenge to X’s 500 million by mid-2025. This is even more e notable due to the fact that Threads has been positioned as an X alternative, meaning that many users have been signing up specifically due to X changes that they dislike.

While several X alternatives are cropping up – including the similarly successful Bluesky – Threads is already primed for major growth due to having Meta’s backing. The company’s recent investments in features like AI could also provide it with some unique selling points that no other platforms are able to offer, thanks to Meta’s resources and range of ongoing projects.

Meta previously stated that it would only consider monetizing the platform after reaching a billion users, and that it doesn’t expect Threads to actually provide any revenue until at least 2026, if not layer. Some indications, however, suggest Threads ad placements are in preliminary testing, and its constant growth means an increasingly large audience to market towards.
