X Raises API Access Fees for Third Party Integration

Social platform X, formerly known has raised its API access fees once again, further complicating third-party access and development. The new API pricing tiers are set to impact a wide range of apps and services that rely on X’s data for functions such as post-sharing, scheduling, and analytics.

Under the updated structure, the “Basic” API tier, which was previously priced at $100 per month, has doubled to $200. Meanwhile, “Premium” access remains at a hefty $42,000 per month. Additionally, developers will incur an extra $1 monthly fee per account linked to their API-dependent applications, adding to the cumulative cost for multi-user services.

Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform in 2022, the Twitter API price was raised for the first time to deter data scraping. This second increase could prevent this scraping even more effectively, but also makes the costs unsustainable for a lot of third-party developers, which includes a number of Twitter-integrated platforms meant for both regular users and industry-specific specialists.

Although X has made minor adjustments to accommodate developer concerns—such as expanded, one-time API access – many question whether this approach will bolster platform revenue or deter the developer community as a whole. For now, it’s simply a case of seeing how the increased fees impact some of the larger third-party platforms.
