Instagram Introduces Profile Cards Globally

Instagram has launched a new feature called profile cards, designed to simplify and personalize the way users share their profiles. The feature, which we covered during its testing phase back in August, allows users to create a digital business card that combines essential profile information with customizable elements.

Profile cards present a two-sided view: one side displays details such as your bio, profile picture, and any added links or music, while the other side features a QR code that leads directly to your Instagram account. Users can also personalize the card’s background with an image of their choice, making it both functional and expressive.

Meta, Instagram’s parent company, stated that the feature was inspired by Gen Z users who increasingly treat their Instagram accounts as digital resumes. With many aspiring to become influencers, profile cards offer a polished and professional way to present themselves. The profile cards feature is expected to be especially useful for content creators and influencers, as it streamlines the process of sharing their profiles and marketing themselves in creative ways.

Although Instagram has offered QR codes for profile sharing since 2018, the new profile cards enhance this functionality by providing a richer snapshot of the user’s identity. This could not only allow users to create more in-depth profiles – increasing the chance of them sparking up conversations with people who share their interests – but also positions Instagram as a more viable place to build a professional or branded profile for discoverability purposes.
