Meta AI Rolls Out in Six Countries, Starting Today
Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ: META) announced the launch of its AI assistant in six countries, including the UK, Brazil, Bolivia, Guatemala, Paraguay, and the Philippines. Starting today, users of Meta’s platforms — Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger — will be able to access the AI assistant through both mobile apps and the web. The news came in an update to their previous Meta AI post from July of this year.
Meta AI, powered by the Llama 3.2 model, is designed to assist users with tasks such as answering questions, brainstorming content, and sharing ideas across Meta’s social platforms. The AI model aims to integrate seamlessly into users’ daily interactions, allowing for content creation and communication within local and global communities – and so far, this launch places it in roughly 21 new distinct markets.
In addition to the AI launch, Meta will debut its new Ray-Ban smart sunglasses, priced at £299. These sunglasses will feature an AI-powered voice assistant, further integrating AI into Meta’s product ecosystem.
The rollout of this improved Meta AI follows previous regulatory and product testing delays. However, the AI assistant has not yet launched in the European Union due to regulatory uncertainties, which Meta has described as “unpredictable.” Meta has also faced scrutiny over concerns about using user posts to train its AI models, with privacy and data usage continuing to be a topic of debate – However, the company views this expansion as a step forward in making AI more accessible.
