Threads Plans New “Loops” Feature for Community Interaction
Threads is developing a new feature called “Loops” to help users find and participate in topic-specific communities within the app. The feature, still in development, will allow users to group individual Threads into Loops, directing relevant content into these community discussions. This would provide an effective way to create topic-driven discussions for an entire community while still keeping individual threads distinct.
According to app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, Loops will let users share posts within specific communities, similar to X’s (formerly Twitter) Communities feature. Users can join and leave these groups as needed, with updates appearing in their Threads feed based on community interests. Loops could help Threads users discover more relevant conversations, a function traditionally served by hashtags, which have seen decreased usage as algorithms take over content curation.
While Loops is still in the early stages, live testing is not yet underway. If successful, Loops could offer a more personalized and organized way for Threads users to engage with content. Not only would this provide a convenient new feature for users, but it also means that Threads can serve as both a general-purpose social platform and a hub for smaller communities – something that only a handful of platforms are able to do effectively.
