Bluesky Surpasses 10 Million Users Amid Rapid Growth
Bluesky, the decentralized social network, has reached the significant milestone of surpassing 10 million active users. This surge is growth is a continuation of the injection of new users seen after X’s ban in Brazil, something that has also impacted Threads in a similar way.
The company has seen rapid adoption, with over 3 million new users joining within days of Brazil’s top court banning X. Bluesky reports that 85% of its recent user base growth came from Brazil, propelling it into the top 10 social media apps on the App Store and Play Store in the country. Bluesky celebrated its milestone by allowing users to see their unique joining number through a playful easter egg on the platform.
Additionally, last week the network experienced record activity and minor server glitches due to the influx of signups. This is no surprise, given that the platform has seen a rapid rise in users ever since mid-2023, with many sudden spikes that would have required emergency work to prevent overloaded servers.
As Bluesky continues to evolve, it remains a noteworthy competitor to Meta’s Threads, which boasts over 200 million users. Recently, the platform introduced video posting and self-moderation tools, including options to control post quoting, hide replies, and mute specific words for designated periods.
