Snapchat Reaches 1.5m NZ Users – 1/3rd of the Population
Snapchat has recently seen massive success in New Zealand, based on their data about their monthly user numbers. If those figures are correct, then with 1.5 million monthly users in a country of 5 million, Snapchat reaches approximately 33% of New Zealand’s population, giving it a massive presence within the New Zealand social media space.
Snap’s success in New Zealand mirrors its broader strategy of expanding its reach outside of traditional markets like North America and Europe, where around 25% and 24% of its users are based, respectively. Notably, it commands the attention of 95% of 13-24 year-olds and 75% of 13-34 year-olds in the country, emphasizing its role as a central connector for Gen Z and Millennials.
Currently, roughly half of Snapchat’s user base now comes from emerging markets, including 200 million users in India. However, in markets like New Zealand, Snapchat’s engagement statistics are impressive. Users open the app an average of 35 times a day, and over 55% interact with Augmented Reality (AR) lenses daily. This means that users aren’t just installing the app, but are actively engaging with it and using it on a regular basis.
Not only is this good news for Snap itself, but also the various businesses operating or serving ads within New Zealand. Having the attention of such a huge part of the population, especially within such a young demographic, could give the platform a lot more influence than previously expected.
