TikTok Introduces Enhanced Safety Tools for Teen Users
TikTok is stepping up its commitment to online safety, particularly for younger users, with the introduction of new tools and resources designed to foster safer digital experiences. Considering how popular TikTok is with the teen market, these updates make a lot of sense for keeping their younger users safe.
TikTok has partnered with the Family Online Safety Institute, or FOSI, to create a “Digital Safety Partnership” agreement for families. This contract-style document is meant to facilitate conversations between parents and teens about online safety, helping to set clear boundaries and digital usage guidelines. While TikTok can introduce plenty of safety features on the platform itself, it’s still the responsibility of the parents to get involved in keeping their teenage children safe.
In addition to the partnership with FOSI, TikTok has revamped its Guardian’s Guide and Teen Safety Center. These resources now feature more visual content, interactive elements like quizzes, and detailed explanations of safety tools such as blocking and reporting. By consulting with its Youth Council, TikTok ensures that these updates are user-friendly and resonate with the teenage audience.
Finally, TikTok is launching a new TV campaign to spotlight its safety features, reinforcing its commitment to a secure user environment. This essentially provides a new way for them to market TikTok as an app by emphasizing the updated safety features – features that many other platforms still struggle to provide.
