Threads Continues to Climb Up “Most Download” Charts

Threads, Meta’s latest social media platform, is steadily gaining momentum, as evidenced by its strong performance in recent app download charts. According to data from AppFigures, Threads ranked as the 7th most downloaded app in July 2024, a notable improvement from previous months.

Since its launch in July 2023, Threads has experienced fluctuating download rankings, peaking initially and then stabilizing in the top 10. Despite its relatively recent entry into the market, Threads has recently outpaced downloads of X, even if its total user base is still significantly smaller.

While Threads’ download numbers are impressive, it’s important to distinguish between app downloads and active user engagement. X still maintains a larger active user base, but the trend suggests growing interest in Threads as a potential alternative. This rise in popularity could be attributed to users exploring new platforms in light of X’s ongoing controversies and challenges, including legal battles and advertiser pullouts.

However, Threads still has a long way to go before it can rival X in terms of active users. The platform’s current growth trajectory suggests that it may eventually catch up, but this could take years. Even so, Threads has clearly been receiving major updates and tweaks on a constant basis, and each one could be the change that pushes it into a new era of growth – provided that Meta continues to push the platform in the right direction.
