X Set to Launch Video Conference Calls
X, the social media platform owned by Elon Musk and formally known as Twitter, is on the verge of launching a new video conferencing feature aiming to rival established platforms like Zoom and Google Meet. This development is part of Musk’s broader vision to transform X into an “everything app,” consolidating various digital interactions and transactions into a single platform.
The new video conferencing functionality, which X engineer Chris Park recently showcased, will be accessible through a “Conferences” tab on the app’s interface. Although details on the maximum number of participants have not been confirmed, the feature is expected to start with limited capacity, similar to X’s existing video calling options.
While the addition of video conferencing adds to X’s growing list of capabilities, its success will depend on whether it can deliver a competitive edge in functionality, reliability, and user experience. Platforms like Zoom and Google Meet have entrenched themselves in the professional communication landscape, offering robust, reliable, and secure services.
Earlier in the year, Musk hinted at the platform’s potential to replace traditional telecommunication methods entirely. This move represents a significant expansion of X’s capabilities, although its features will presumably be limited to begin with as it is tested and re-evaluated.
