Instagram Tests New Profile Card System
Instagram is currently testing a new feature for selected creators: digital profile cards. This update aims to enhance profile visibility and facilitate content discovery on the platform, while also allowing a bit more flexibility with how profiles are constructed.
The new profile cards offer a dual-sided digital experience. One side features a QR code for quick and easy profile access. The other side provides a summary of the creator’s Instagram presence, including their image, bio, profile category, and business links. This format is designed to simplify connections and encourage more followers with a straightforward scan-and-follow process.
Despite Instagram’s previous attempts to integrate QR codes, their usage has been limited. Since their introduction in 2018, QR codes have seen minimal adoption, partly due to frequent changes in their placement within the app. Instagram also reintroduced QR codes for Broadcast Channels in June, suggesting that they may be finally adopting the codes as a recurring feature within the app.
While it is uncertain how widely these cards will be adopted, they provide an additional tool for creators to showcase their profiles and content, and could eventually become available to all users on the platform. For now, digital profile cards offer a novel option for enhancing digital engagement and profile promotion.
Since these cards are still in the testing phase, features will likely change as creators weigh in on how much they have benefited from the new system. For now, Instagram is willing to experiment with how these cards will impact interactions between creators across their platform.
