New Social App ‘Crossed’ Creates New Friendships in Unfamiliar Places

A new social networking app, Crossed, is changing how individuals forge connections in unfamiliar cities. Developed by co-founders Manny Manzel and Conor Crighton, Crossed leverages advanced geolocation technology to help users find friends, colleagues, and even potential dates by simply living their daily lives.

Crossed creates a 150-meter zone around users and alerts them when a compatible connection is nearby. This approach enables users to meet people who share their interests, whether at the gym, in a bookstore, or at an art museum.

Crossed offers three modes: friendship, business, and dating. Users can choose which mode to engage in, ensuring that their profile appears only in the relevant categories. This separation allows users to focus on building the type of connections they seek, without overlap or miscommunications.

The inspiration behind Crossed stemmed from frustration with most conventional social apps. With 78% of surveyed individuals expressing burnout from dating apps, Manzel and Crighton saw an opportunity to create a more meaningful platform.

Crossed prioritizes user privacy and security, protecting users’ personal information with robust digital security measures.  The app also encourages identity verification and offers a ‘SafeMode’ option, giving users control over when and how they reveal their profiles to potential connections.

While Crossed is still in its early stages, the geolocation system sets it apart from many similar apps that have already seen frequent use. Only time will tell if it has enough impact to become a new standard for social apps as a whole.
