Bumble Shares Its Data About Why Friendships Fall Apart
Bumble, the popular dating app, has released insightful data on the phenomenon of “friendship breakups”. As a major part of many people’s developing social lives, Bumble has access to a wide range of data related to how these friendships suddenly come to a close.
The findings are based on a global report commissioned by Bumble in August and September 2023, involving 28,000 participants, including 2,500 from the Philippines.
he report reveals that one in 10 Filipinos have found it difficult to maintain connections with friends since the onset of the pandemic. Life changes such as starting a family, taking a new job, or moving to a new location are common factors contributing to the gradual or abrupt ending of friendships.
Additionally, evolving priorities and interests naturally lead people to grow out of certain relationships. One in five Filipinos believe it’s normal for friendships to fade when they no longer serve their current life stage.
Misunderstandings, unresolved conflicts, and lack of open communication are also significant contributors to friction and distance between friends. Reflecting on the lessons learned from these mistakes can also help individuals better understand the types of relationships they seek moving forward.
In response, Bumble offers practical advice for individuals navigating friendship breakups. The company emphasizes the importance of acknowledging emotions – through conversation, writing, or other creative outlets – and encourages self-care through hobbies or positive social interactions.
Bumble’s data underscores the ongoing desire for new social connections, with 68% of Filipinos expressing a wish to find new friends in their local area for convenience and shared activities. Additionally, a 2022 global report by the company revealed that 74% of people are actively seeking like-minded individuals to build a supportive network.
