Japanese Creative Studio Unveils AR Lenses for Snapchat

Designium, a leading creative studio in Japan, has unveiled a range of Snapchat Lenses designed to transform user interactions through augmented reality (AR). Available on Designium’s Snapchat page, these innovative lenses promise to elevate the user experience beyond traditional facial filters.

Designium’s new lenses change not only users’ appearances but also their surroundings. By leveraging AR, these lenses allow users to engage with their surroundings through hand gestures, facial expressions, and body movements. This creates a highly immersive and interactive experience, with the aim of boosting engagement on Snapchat.

For instance, the FishScooping Lens immerses users in an underwater world where they can catch virtual fish with a hand swipe. The Omikuji Lens offers users a taste of Japanese culture by generating virtual fortunes, adding an element of surprise to their snaps. Additionally, the BallToss Lens challenges users’ aiming skills in a fun AR game, while the Face Fusion France Lens enables users to morph their faces with iconic French figures, complete with backgrounds and outfits.

Designium’s lenses are a product of strategic experimentation with Generative AI and augmented reality technologies. To showcase how the team is pushing boundaries in lens design, a CG Artist at Designium detailed their creative and technical process in an article earlier this year.

The studio released the lenses this month, inviting Snap users to interact with their environment and unleash their creativity in original ways.

In addition to this product launch, Designium shared the potential it sees for future lens applications in Snapchat Camera for Chrome. This service allows developers and studios to create AR experiences accessible directly through a web browser, promising a more seamless and immersive experience for users.
