Pinterest Adds Shareable Video Tool for Gen Z
Pinterest has launched a feature that lets users turn their boards into shareable videos, catering to Gen Z’s preference for video content. This update aims to boost Pinterest’s appeal in the TikTok era by making board sharing on social media more intuitive and interactive.
The feature builds on Pinterest’s Shuffles app, popular with Gen Z on TikTok for its music-backed collages and mood boards.
Previously, Pinterest users shared their boards manually through screenshots or TikTok’s green screen effects. Known as “mecore,” this trend saw a 565% surge in searches on Pinterest and a 255% rise in “mecore” boards over the past year.
Now, users can tap the share icon on any public board to auto-generate a video. They can share it on Instagram Stories or download it for TikTok. Users can also edit Pins or choose different templates before sharing.
Moreover, Pinterest has collaborated with recording artists Avril Lavigne and Tierra Whack to showcase the feature’s potential. Lavigne’s board focuses on fashion inspiration for her upcoming tour, while Whack uses boards to share her eclectic interests and creative projects.
“Gen Z makes up over 40% of our global monthly users and are our most engaged generation. Enhancing board features based on user feedback is a critical investment for us this year,” according to the platform‘s director of consumer product marketing.
This feature boosts social sharing among Gen Z and drives traffic back to Pinterest by using platforms like TikTok. Pinterest’s strategy highlights the importance of video content and cross-platform engagement to attract younger audiences.
