Startup Roundup – 21st June

Social Discovery Insights is constantly on the lookout for new players, disruptive business models, and innovative technologies, in the social discovery market.

  1. Whee: A new photo-sharing app quietly launched by ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company. For now, it’s available outside the U.S. on Android, with an interface very similar to Instagram but focusing on a more personal experience with a friends-only approach. Its simple UI features tabs for camera, feed, and messages. While clearly positioned to be an Instagram competitor, Bytedance has yet to comment on its release.
  2. Daylyy: Removing the pressure to curate and edit, Daylyy encourages its users to share unfiltered moments through casual daily updates. It focuses on genuine, everyday experiences for authentic connections. Like a daily content journal for its users, there are no filters and posts are intended to be shared in real-time.
  3. Riff Raff: Made for musicians of all levels, Riff Raff allows its users to share video covers, connect with fellow music fans, and climb the community’s charts. It encourages music practice with challenges, coaching, and rewards. It seeks to improve inspiration and motivation by turning music-making into a collaborative and socially fun experience.

In Case You Missed It! Here’s last week’s Startup Roundup:

  1. Three: Created with Gen Z in mind, this app allows its users to stay in touch via simple drop-in group video chats. Users can create groups with their friends, and meet new ones in community spaces. It supports group video calls, as well as voice and text messaging.
  2. Therr: Using geo-fence technology, Therr allows users to share ‘moments’ and discover ‘spaces’ unique to their surroundings, earning cash rewards and local discounts through community engagement. For businesses, it offers a platform to claim digital ‘spaces,’ send targeted promotions, and attract more foot traffic. Its aim is to boost social health via healthy incentives.
  3. Explurger: This AI-powered social travelogue app from India allows its users to document their journeys by tracking miles traveled and destinations visited. Its features include a Bucket List for future adventures, location-activated reminders and directions, and the ability to share plans and posts across social platforms.
