Luma: Event-Planning App Sees Impressive User Growth
Event-planning platform Luma is responding to the growing demand to simplify the hosting of social events, with around 2 million people signing up for events on the app each month.
The platform has experienced impressive growth over the past year, expanding its user base fivefold, according to Luma founder Victor Pontis. After launching in 2020, Luma raised $3,000,000 in seed funding. Pontis also shared with Business Insider that Luma has grown fivefold in the last year alone.
Initially limited to Zoom events, the platform has since expanded to allow hosts to organize in-person gatherings. A Partiful competitor, Luma boasts an easy-to-use interface, robust analytics, marketing tools, a discovery platform, and a chat feature.
Moreover, the app recently launched new features to support more languages and streamline the hosting process. Users can now filter their search to discover local events in cities worldwide, and a new beta feature allows hosts to build their community with member-only event calendars.
Additional new features launched to enhance the user experience include improvements to Luma’s functionality and form. For example, users can now see more information about a host or other attendees, as well as customize their calendar view or chosen theme for an event’s page.
Furthermore, the updates also improve other logistics for hosts using Luma, specifically ticket purchases and payments. The platform now facilitates global payments, group ticket purchasing, and simplifies the sharing of a special discount link with attendees.
With its built-in social features targeting Gen Z and millennials and streamlined event-organizing experience, Luma appeals to the new wave of IRL event startups aimed at younger people. Its user-friendly interface which includes options for avatars, groups chats and photos, allow it to stand out from already-established platforms.
