Whatsapp Adds Events To Its Communities Feature

WhatsApp is adding events to its “Communities” feature in new updates introduced to boost engagement.

Users can already connect through group chats based on specific topics, locations, or interests via the app’s Communities feature. However, with the introduction of Community Events, the feature will now allow users to highlight upcoming social gatherings directly within the group chat.

“With events it’s now easier for people to plan their get-togethers directly in WhatsApp, whether it’s setting up a virtual meeting or birthday dinner“, said Whatsapp in a blog post. Events will be introduced to groups who are part of a Community first, before a wider roll out to all groups.

Members will be able to easily create and share events for the whole group chat to see. Events will be displayed in the chat and on the group’s information page, ensuring everyone stays updated with upcoming plans. Additionally, members who RSVP will receive automatic reminder notifications as the event approaches.

This update expands the functionality of WhatsApp’s Communities, providing users with more options for social interaction and facilitating in-person meetups. It’s a valuable tool for organizing events and engaging with different interest-based groups within the app.

Another enhancement includes the ability to add replies to Announcement Groups. Admins can now gauge responses from members, while members can see how announcements are being received – all within one stream.

Since launching in 2022, Communities has provided users with a broader social element within WhatsApp. These updates enhance the app’s potential for social discovery by offering more options for building connections and fostering community within the app.
