Airchat – The audio-based social app to talk, not text
Airchat is a potential new game-changer in the social discovery space, thanks to its innovative approach as a social platform based on audio posts.
Recently launched on both iOS and Android platforms, Airchat has quickly gained attention, ranking #27 in social networking on the Apple App Store despite currently being invite-only.
The app is the brainchild of Naval Ravikant, a founder of AngelList (a platform connecting angel investors and startups) and Brian Norgard, Tinder’s former Chief Product Officer.
At its core, Airchat is a social media platform that encourages users to engage in spontaneous and authentic conversations through voice messages.
Unlike traditional text-based apps, Airchat offers a refreshing audio-centric experience, where users can follow others, listen to audio recordings, and engage with content through likes, shares, and replies.
Users create posts and replies through voice recordings which the app transcribes into text automatically. When you open up the app, audio messages start playing and users can swipe to easily navigate between these voice recordings.
Ravikant, who is himself one of the app’s investors, shared recently that there’s “no monetization pressure on the company whatsoever.” He also emphasizes his belief that voice messages foster genuine human connections often missed in text-based interactions.
