Supernova – A Social Network that Gives Back

Supernova is a social platform dedicated to providing positivity and value to every user’s day. As part of its mission to give back and create positive change, the platform donates 60% of its advertising revenue to charities.

The platform shares that it is unique because it offers an opportunity to “eliminate ‘humblebrags’, boasts and other negative posts, and build an amazing community sharing amazing content”.

Rather than the traditional ‘like’, users on Supernova can show their appreciation for great content by saying ‘Thanks for this’. This is a positive message for the person who has posted, but also will lead to a donation to that poster’s chosen charity.

In order to keep Supernova a positive platform, it enforces content moderation rules. These include no hate speech, no discussion of politics, and a ‘three strikes’ policy.

Founder and CEO of Supernova, Dominic O’Meara, explained “our technology and accessibility make it possible for the world to genuinely help each other using social media and the power of advertising. And to see transparently exactly how and where their actions are helping at all times”, in an interview with TechCrunch.

The report shares that Supernova looks to donate 60% of its advertising revenue to global charities, with these funds divided according to the preferences of users. Selected initiatives include animal welfare, cleaning up the ocean, addressing homelessness, and more.
